Harbinger

Harbinger is a group exhibition curated by Nicola Dickson featuring the work of Dianne Fogwell, Steven Holland, Megan and Ginger Bottari, Tiffany Cole with sound design by Reuben Lewis. As visual artists, they share an interest in exploring the different ways that people relate to and interact with the natural world. Although they each typically create representational imagery or objects to delve into this subject, they approach it from very different viewpoints employing a range of media and processes to do so. These include large scale relief prints (Dianne Fogwell), oil paint on gold‑leafed panels (Tiffany Cole), cast bronze sculptures and drawings (Steven Holland), lost wax cast glass (Megan Bottari), saw pierced titanium (Ginger Bottari) and oil paint on linen (Nicola Dickson).

In acknowledgment of the fact that birdsong is the most frequent way we experience birds, the displayed works are embedded in a soundscape composed by Reuben Lewis initially derived from field recordings of bird calls. Drawing these works together in Harbinger offers a diverse display of artworks that engage with humanity’s complex relationship with birds.

Production and documentation of the works was supported by ArtsACT project funding.
